Designing a rugged collage visual language for the album “Gag”, that reflects the journey of loss and self-reconstruction.

Gag (”גג”, Hebrew: “roof”) explores emotional fluctuations: the contrast between ease and hardship, softness and intensity, clarity and distortion. Its songs examine the aftermath of a breakup, the weight of loss, and the slow, imperfect process of rebuilding. The visual identity, created in partnership with Noa Dvoskin, extends across vinyl and cassette formats, aiming to reflect these lyrical concepts through a new interpretative visual lens. The work was created in direct collaboration with the Girafot band.

The visual inspiration was collage, reflecting the album’s emotional process of reassembly. Rugged textures, mismatched paper layers, and shifting colors over a black and white base create contrast, mirroring the changing moods of the music, while the noisy elements amplify the raw, imperfect aesthetic. The chosen imagery expands the emotions and symbolism in the lyrics, offering a fresh visual interpretation that deepens the album’s narrative.

The song titles were created using a custom made letterset, characterized by sharp edges and an imperfect feel, mirroring the album’s themes. This project came to life thanks to my collaborator Noa Dvoskin. We developed the concept and imagery together, then each took on a song to execute, eventually finalizing the entire booklet side by side to create a cohesive piece of work.
